北海道札幌市にある円山動物園です。
こちらはフラミンゴ！！
彼らはとっても綺麗でした。
鮮やかな色もそうですが
羽がすごく綺麗。
なぜ色違いがいるのかなぁと少し調べてみると
ーーー フラミンゴといえば、綺麗なピンク色をしているイメージですが、ピンク色の体をしているのはなぜなのでしょう？
それは、えさとする藻類やエビなどに含まれる「カンタキサンチン」や「βカロチン」という色素によるものです。この色素を摂らなければ、体の色は白くなります。 ーーー と言うことのようです。
食べるもので色が変わるようですね。

Here we have flamingos!!
They were incredibly beautiful.
Not just the vivid color, but their feathers were really stunning.
I was curious why they come in different colors, so I did a little research and found this:
When we think of flamingos, we usually imagine them as having a beautiful pink color. But why are their bodies pink?
It turns out that the color comes from pigments like “canthaxanthin” and “beta-carotene” found in the algae and shrimp they eat. Without these pigments in their diet, their bodies would turn white.
So, it seems their color changes based on what they eat.
Isn’t that fascinating?
